We want to engage the Millennials and younger residents of Sandy Springs because greenspace, parks and trails are as important to them as older generations. We’re fortunate this year to be working with three exceptional Sandy Springs residents!
Aidan Brady, a senior at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School, is an expert programmer and JAVA coder, selected by Microsoft Corporation to intern at its research facility in Seattle this past summer. He is developing a fun informational application for smart phones – you’ll be able to find all our Sandy Springs parks and many surrounding parks on this easy-to-use app. It will be available free app from the Apple store in 1Q 2016. It will feature current parks in Sandy Springs, and many the parks & trails around us – the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Center (NPS), Chastain Park, Blue Heron Nature Preserve, Mountain Way Park and PATH 400. The app is intended for residents and visitors…and the hundreds of employees of local & Fortune 500 companies who work in Sandy Springs.
Sierra Tokanel, a sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill studying economics and finds the economic value of greenspace, parks and trails compelling. For the past summer, she did research on greenspace for our website.
Evan Bauman, high school sophomore at Galloway School, is an expert nature photographer. In his free time this school year, he’ll be photographing parks and greenspace sites throughout Sandy Springs for SSC. Many will appear on our website and our new Park app in development by Aidan Brady.
